System Commissionings

Knight Sound & Lighting Inc. handles system commissionings for a variety of manufacturers.  A system commissioning MAY involve any of all of the following for a newly installed system:   check-out, testing, terminations, programming and end-user training.

Please note that Knight Sound & Lighting Inc. is acting as an authorized service agency of the dimming/relay manufacturer.  Our company is  NOT responsible for the sale of the system and/or the system specifications.

Types of Commissionings

  • Dimming Systems
    Traditional Theatrical/Architectural
These systems often include wall stations and/or a theatrical lighting control console.  A commissioning for this type of system may involve system check-out & testing, wire terminations, basic programming of the wall control stations and training.  If a console is present, training sessions can run over 4 hours.
  • Relay Systems
Energy efficient systems that often integrate with BAS systems.
For this type of system, the contractor MUST provide a relay schedule in advance of the commissioning.  This means providing relay names, time programming information and details regarding circuits, switches, photocells and occupancy sensors.  The forms on this page have been provided for convenience.

This type of commissioning may include system check-out & testing, programming of the relay system, and training.  In many cases, the programming will be done in advance (using the information provided by the contractor) and simply loaded into the system during the technician's visit.

Scheduling System Commissionings

  • Please allow 3 weeks!
We work with a variety of clients all over the world.  Each job is very important to us, but they must be handled in the order they are received.  Each manufacturer requests 3 weeks for scheduling and even then can not make guarantees.  Dates scheduled in under 3 weeks often carry a heavy and necessary "expedite fee."
  • Provide Information
Although contractors may have been working on a project for months, the system commissioning forms we receive are the first and only information we have!  Please provide thorough, legible and complete information.  We will usually do a MapQuest to find the job, so a complete address and any special directions are important.

We also need proper contact information (company names and contacts).

Finally, we will need any information pertinent to the system (relay schedules, missing parts, training times, etc.).  Most sites receive only one visit -- we want it to be as smooth and effective as possible!
